Saturday, 04. May 2019, Q Center, Asylum Support Mental Health Evaluation Volunteer Training

Asylum Mental Health Evaluation Volunteer Training sponsored by MHPU! & Innovation Law LabThis training will prepare and connect mental health providers with opportunities to provide pro bono mental health evaluations for asylum seekers in support of their legal case. In 2018, in MHPU! core organizers started a collaboration pilot project with Innovation Law Lab to provide these evaluations, which are a crucial part of the client’s asylum claim, and help document the impact and effects of trauma. We are now ready to expand the volunteer base to increase access to this important resource. This training will include an overview of the asylum process, important political context, and local efforts to support asylum seekers. We will walk you through the process of conducting an evaluation including work flow, interview considerations, informed consent and written documentation. You can sign on to our list of volunteers for case referrals.
Who should come?
*Clinicians with desire to do direct service activism
*Licensed or with a clinical supervisor
*Following training, consider commitment to complete at least one pro bono evaluation per year
This is an exciting opportunity to use your exisitng professional skills in direct service to asylum seekers!
DONATION: $10-$25 Goes directly to training costs and remainder will be donated to Innovation Law Lab
If you are already trained to provide asylum evaluations, you can certainly still attend! But if you are all ready to go and would like to sign up to complete 1-2 pro bono evaluations per year through Innovation Law Lab and Equity Corps: email us at contact@ This training will include a one page overview of topics covered and names/credentials of trainers & you can submit this to your board at your discretion to see if it qualifies for continuing education on your own (consider this a training “superbill”).
