Monday, 11. February 2019, Paul Robeson Campus Center, Cecilia Novero on "The Radical Vulnerability of Agency: Michael Haneke's Code Unknown (2000)"

Postcolonial Performances and Questions presents:
Cecilia Novero, Assoc. Professor of German Studies in New Zealand,
speaking on
"The Radical Vulnerability of Agency: Michael Haneke's Code Unknown (2000)"
in conversation with Laura Lomas, Rutgers University-Newark
After publishing Antidiets of the Avant-Garde: From Futurist Cooking to Eat Art (UMinnesota Press 2010), Cecilia Novero’s interdisciplinary research and publications have addressed animal studies, literature and visual culture, including the Avant-Garde. Cecilia has researched the German Democratic Republic and post-wall literature, art and film, and she serves on the board of Antennae, The Animal Studies Journal and Otago German Studies, and she co-edited, Of Rocks, Mushrooms and Animals: Material Ecocriticism in German-speaking Cultures (2017). Drawing on Novero's recent writing on Michael Haneke's Code Unknown (2000) and feminist philosopher Judith Butler's Frames of War, this talk will engage urgent questions about agency and cosmopolitics, which have informed her intellectual pursuits to-date.  Prof. Novero arrives to us from her current residence in Shenzen (PRC) and the University of Otawa in New Zealand, and thus she brings a worldly angle to conversations about a more global, comparative direction for interdisciplinary and public humanities at RU-N.
Sponsored by Office of the Provost, Honors College, Department of English and Women's and Gender Studies Program
