Tomatoes are the number one vegetable grown in the garden – yet, growing tomatoes in the desert can be a challenge. However, if you pick the right varieties and plant those at the right time, growing tomatoes can be very rewarding. Peppers are part of the same family as tomatoes, Solanaceae, yet they can be easier to grow. In addition, with hundreds of varieties from which to choose, from the hot Scotch Bonnet to the mild bell to the very sweet Lunchbox, there really is a pepper for everyone!Come and join Master Gardener Kristy McCumby-Hyland, lead gardener in the Master Gardener Community Garden, as she shares varieties and growing techniques the Master Gardener Community Garden uses to grow great tomatoes and peppers
