Saturday, 13. April 2019, Colorado State University Extension - Douglas County, Introduction to Botany

Enjoy an interactive, fun and fact-filled class designed to prepare you for success in your study of Colorado's flora. Participants will be exposed to the plant kingdom and basic botanical terms as we get a close-up look at plant parts, discover scientific terminology and basic identifying characteristics, all to set you up for success in the field. No keying will be done in this class.
Trainer: Lenore Mitchell started teaching NPM courses in 2006 and is the president of Metro Chapter Colorado Native Plant Society. She also has taught for DU Olli and has led hikes for DBG, Roxborough State Park and CoNPS.
Optional Text (Recommended): Flora of Colorado, Jennifer Ackerfield, 2015 Edition available through Colorado Native Plant Society bookstore (), local and online retail outlets and the publisher (800-621-2736).
When and Where to Meet: Please arrive by 8:45 AM. Class begins 9:00 AM sharp at the CSU Extension Office - Douglas County, 410 Fairgrounds Road, Castle Rock CO 80104 (see map).
What to bring: Paper, pencil, hand lens (approximately 10x). The textbook and hand lens can be purchased through the Colorado Native Plant Society () or any on-line or local area bookstore.
Native Plant Master: While this class does not count towards Colorado Flora Certificate or certification as a Native Plant Master, it is a prerequisite for the courses that do count towards certification.
