Knife-cutting is perhaps the most fundamental task when it comes to cooking and preparing food. In this WEM class we will cover all the basic equipment and skills you need to have and know about to be a safe and efficient when working at the cutting board. In this course, we will cover the following topics:

Essential knives and accessories to own

Knife care/maintenance and storage

Introduction to basic knife cuts and techniques

To ensure students receive proper instruction and attention, this WEM class is a small-group class structure with limited spots.
The course will begin with light refreshments/hors d'oeuvres, followed by a presentation reviewing different types of knives and knife accessories, knife maintenance/storage tips, and knife safety. A hands-on session will then take place where fundamental knife cuts will be reviewed and practiced on the board. At the end of the hands-on portion of the course, a simple dish will be prepared with the ingredients used and prepared during the class. A handout will be provided that will help summarize and capture all the information discussed during the class. The focus of this WEM class is technique-based where students focus on learning how to properly use kitchen knives vs. learning how to prepare a specific recipe.
Will there be food available?
There will belight light refreshments/hors d'oeuvres available. We will then create a dish to eat with the vegetables that we chop and serve it at the conclusion of the course.
Do I need to have any prior experience with knife-cutting or general kitchen experience?No! The only requirement is an interest in cooking.
What will I learn?You'll leave the class understanding various types of knives, basic care tips, and being able to produce a few different essential knife cuts
