Following the success of her one woman shows, "The Dragon Lady" and "Dragon Lady: I’m Going to **** You", Seattle’s hottest theater artist Sara Porkalob has transformed the story of her Filipina gangster family into a culinary cabaret adventure premiering at Nordo’s Culinarium in Pioneer Square this January.

Porkalob’s killer pipes and acting athleticism seamlessly weave together the cinematic history of her family with original music by Pete Irving from Hot **** Scandal and Filipino cuisine by Chef Aaron Verzosa in an evening of delicious family skeletons.

It is Grandma Maria’s 60th birthday party and her dysfunctional children are ruining everything, from the menu to the decor. Shirking off familial responsibilities, they use her party as an excuse to relieve their traumatic childhood memories. Grandma decides she must take matters into her own hands, Dragon Lady style, or else her guests will starve and her image will be tarnished forever. Unleashing her arsenal of song, dance, and Filipino food, Madame Dragon sings, dances and kills her way through 40 years of memories of a life (mostly) well lived.

Sara Porkalob is an award winning solo performer, director and arts activist. She was most recently seen in Village Theatre’s Pump Boys and Dinettes and in String as part of the 2016 summer New Works Festival. She was last seen at Cafe Nordo as Agent Jiang Ping in To Savor Tomorrow in the spring of 2016. Sara has performed at Book-it Repertory Theatre, 5th Avenue Theatre, Taproot Theatre, Artswest, Bumbershoot, and other local venues.

She is a co-founder of The Demo Site, an independent theatre collective producing intersectional deconstructions of classical theatre canon works and of DeConstruct, an online journal of intersectional performance critique. An Asian-Pacific Islander and fervent fourth wave feminist, she is committed to dynamic story-telling and cultural place-making in her community.

Chef Aaron Verzosa has trained in Paris and Seattle and been a Research Chef at Intellectual Venture’s incredible Modernist Cuisine lab in Redmond as well as a cook at some of Seattle’s most beloved restaurants including The Harvest Vine and Txori bar.

Since 2009, Café Nordo has created immersive, theatrical dining experiences garnering critical praise and in 2015 a permanent venue in Seattle’s Historic Pioneer Square. Relying on relationships with local farmers, ranchers, fishermen, composers, actors, and visual artists, Café Nordo serves up modern cuisine while thrilling audiences with the history, myth, science, and politics of food.
