Sunday, 09. June 2019, Alhamra Art Center, Miniature Painting

The small pictures, painted without representation of light and lacking perspective have their origins in eighth century Uygur miniature painting. Ottoman miniature painting developed during the 15th century under Sultan Mehmed II. At that time this art was mainly used for the decoration of books but in time it expanded and came to be recognized as an art on its own. Tools used in miniature painting are those also used in illumination.
