A Comprehensive Clinical Guide to Childhood Apraxia of Speech:
   Unpacking the evidence to fill your toolbox
 
This course is designed for speech-langauge pathologists looking to expand their knowledge in the assessment and treatment of Childhood Apraxia of Speech.  Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

State 5 diagnostic features associated with CAS across ages
State 2 risk factors for CAS that can be observed in children under age 2;5
List/describe 3 assessment tools
Explain principles of target selection for CAS
Describe 2 evidence-based treatment methodologies for CAS
Describe the components of a comprehensive assessment

 
Meeting Agenda
8:00 - 8:30am                  Registration               
   
8:30am - 10:15am          Overview- Motor speech development, core characteristics of CAS,            associated diagnostic features across age ranges and severties     
 
10:15am – 10:30am       Morning break
 
10:30am – 12:00pm       Assessment – Components of comprehensive motor speech assessment, review and demonstration of key diagnostic tools, techniques for collecting data in to inform treatment planning        
                                               
12:00pm – 1:00pm         Lunch break- Lunch on your own
 
1:00pm – 2:15pm          Intervention – Principles of motor learning, target selection, and treatment design guidelines at various levels of severity
 
2:15pm – 2:30pm          Afternoon break
 
2:30pm – 3:30pm         Intervention - Evidence-based treatment treatment approaches, cueing systems and hierarchies, demonstration and application to cases
 
3:30pm                         Session adjourns
 
This course is offered for 0.55 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level, Professional area).
