Free program.  This program is part of Elgin's Annual March Into Health Event.  Learn more about getting healthier by merely changing your Standard American Diet (SAD) eating habits, using scientifically proven methods.  The presenters are doctors who promote healthy diets in their medical practices and in between the the sessions, there will be a fun food prep demonstration by a nationally recognized, board-certified nutrition practitioner.

Heart Disease and Nutrition: Prevention is the New Intervention
How heart disease can be prevented by changing our diet away from our SAD (Standard American Diet) composed of mostly processed foods and eating whole foods—fruits, vegetable and beans, legumes, seeds and nuts.
Dr. Steven Lome, DO, is a cardiologist at Rush-Copley in Aurora, IL, focusing on preventing and reversing heart disease with plant-based nutrition.  He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Cardiac CT, Nuclear Cardiology, Echocardiography, Vascular Medicine and is the founder of the Plant Based Nutritian Movement.

Carol D’Anca, MS, LDN, CNS, is a board-certified nutrition practitioner and president of “Food Not Meds,” focusing on the prevention and reversal of chronic illness including diabetes, hypertension and the major cause of death in the U.S., cardiovascular disease. A popular public speaker, best-selling author and founder of “The Academy of Plant Based Cooking” classes in Deerfield, Illinois. Carol began her undergraduate studies in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin and has a master’s degree in Nutrition from The Chicago Medical School in North Chicago, Illinois.

How components of our food interact with our body to provide extraordinary health benefits, preventing and treating disease. We will also cover aspects of mind, body and spirit to achieve optimal health, and how to put this together, translating to meal plans that work.
Dr. Ashwani Garg, MD, is a family physician focusing on general medical care of adults and children, often prescribing, on a prescription pad, a healthy lifestyle, including fitness, mindfulness, and plant-based nutrition. Integrating natural with conventional and modern medical treatments. He is certified by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM).  He takes a holistic approach to health, taking in to account the mind-body, social factors, and biological factors. A member of the Physician’s Committee on Responsible Medicine, he also serves on the Board of Directors of the Plant Basted Nutrition Movement and is a valued Honorary Director and Senior Advisor of the Community Harvest Educational Foundation.
