Instructor: Philip Massey, PhD, MPH, assistant professor at Drexel Dornsife School of Public Health.

In this applied course, students will collect “real time” social media data to answer their own research question. Students will apply descriptive statistics to analyze quantitative data, develop a codebook to examine qualitative data, and integrate the two approaches to complete a multi-method data analysis. Coursework will focus on organizing and interpreting data, and preparing and presenting data for diverse audiences.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:

Develop a mixed methods research question

Apply sampling and data collection methodologies using social media data

Conduct quantitative and qualitative data coding and data management

Synthesize population data using univariate and bivariate statistics

Integrate quantitative and qualitative data using mixed methods approaches

Frame results for different audiences
